Nokia Locate Sensor - Find misplaced things!
CES (Consumer Electronic Show) Las Vegas, This week, Nokia’s R&D team showed off a product called ‘Nokia Locate
Sensor’. This is a simple tracer device that helps people to locate and find things that they lose. Unfortunately,
this is still a prototype. But Nokia is sure to make it avail publicly very sooner.

How does the device works?
Its simple. Along with the device comes a symbian application, that you will install in your nokia handset and tag
the device. For ex, if i am a frequent loser of my keys, i’ll attach the device to my keys, and tag it as ‘keys’ in the handset’s application. And thats it. If my keys are lost, i simply switch to my ‘Nokia Locate sensor’ application. The application will provide me with the direction and an approximate distance to the device (through the help of sensor). The sensor doesn’t rely on GPS, so it will work indoor. It works on a simple wireless signal that can be tracked from 100 meter. And tada, i found the device and along with it, the keys, behind the couch :-p.

The Nokia locate sensor is also functional the other way, that is you can track your mobile with the help of the sensor. stay tuned to know when this cool device is launched.

good for the dog if he only runs 100 meters away
most would need a 2nd tracker to find the 1st one I think
another way to separate folks from their money tech gadgets always sell

Does it use a battery?
I’m thinking that people will also lose the tracked item when the batteries are dead. You know? Inevitably, the battery will be dead when you need this the most.
Water resistance? If I dropped my car keys on a rainy day, they could be in a puddle…. BZZZT! Dead battery.
All in all, I’d not pay very much for something if it has all the faults I described - maybe a dollar or two, that is it. Certainly not worth Nokia expending millions of dollars to develop a $50 gadget with the problems I’ve described.

Not worth developing if it has 2 possible faults? I’d happily pay £50 (which is a lot more then $50) for one of these. Looking past all the incredibly useful applications (finding keys, cats if they extended the reach etc) You could make up some incredibly fun games with things like this. Look at GPS, theres an entire subculture dedicated to GPS treasure hunts, whilst this wouldn’t have the open to all feeling of it, You could stil have great fun with it.
